How To Transition Your Skincare Routine For Cold Weather

I appreciate the beauty in Fall and how exciting this new season can be, but for most of us experiencing dry or dehydrated skin around this time of the year, it can be pretty disappointing. Here are few simple tips and tricks to help you transition through the Fall/Winter months.

Colder weather means rain, wind and snow. When there is not as much moisture in the air, there is less moisture for your skin which causes a breakdown in your skin barrier . For this reason we all need to make moisturizing our skin the utmost important step in our skincare routine. If you often times wear makeup like i do, then it is essential to know that a perfect makeup application begins with investing the time into a skincare regimen.

Know Your Skin Type

It is vital to know your skin type so you don’t waste money on products that won’t deliver the best results for your skin, we all know that good skincare is not cheap so we might as well spend wisely. Dehydrated skin is skin lacking water ,while dry skin is lacking oils, knowing the difference will be super beneficial for your shopping experience. You may have dry or dehydrated skin or face this problem only during certain seasons like i do. In the Summer i use a light-weight moisturiser and a thicker cream in the colder months to lock in moisture, so my skin doesn’t appear dry and cakey especially when I have Make-up on.

Choosing A Serum

Serums are an excellent choice to have hydrating ingredients penetrate the skin much easier and in deeper layers of the skin for better absorption. When treating dehydrated skin, you must take notice of the ingredients in your cleansers, serums and moisturisers. Your skin will need ingredients like glycerin, ceramides, vitamin c, hyaluronic acid and linoleic acid. On the other hand someone with dry skin should reach for emollient based ingredients in your skincare products, there are so many options available to treat dry skin, in one of my recent post i have listed a few of the Best Natural Facial Oils

How To Apply Your Skincare

Always ensure your skin is generously clean before you begin applying your skincare products, i recommend using the lightest to the thickest with oil/moisturiser or sunscreen as the last step, depending on the time of the day.

Even if you are struggling with severe dry skin, be careful not to over moisturize, because this can become too heavy and lead to clogging your pores, which will not be beneficial in the long run. Sheet masks are also a great option to incorporate into your routine at least once a week for a extra boost of plumpness and moisture.

Let us all begin laying the foundation for a healthy, youthful skin by making it a daily ritual from earlier on. Here I have listed a few products to shop this Fall/Winter.
